Botox Side Effects
While there are some possible side effects, BOTOX© medical research shows that BOTOX© injections are safe for most people. At Your Laser Skin Care, we believe in full disclosure of side effects, although we know that it may be very rare for you to experience them.
Here is a list of the side effects that may be experienced and the approximate frequency that they occur. The frequency rates are based on scientific studies.
• Stiff or weak muscles at or near the injection site (up to 2%)
• Facial pain (up to 2%)
• Nausea (up to 3%)
• Droopy eyelids (up to 3%)
• Indigestion or heartburn (up to 1%)
• Tooth problems (up to 1%)
• High blood pressure (up to 1%)
Redness and swelling can occur at the injection site as well.
The amount of BOTOX© used in therapy is very small. However, any medical treatment may react with your body in a negative manner. Here’s a little secret from top plastic surgeons that you may not know: many of these side effects can be avoided simply by choosing an experienced physician who has administered BOTOX© to hundreds of people. At Your Laser Skin Care, our physician has the experience that is needed to minimize these risks.
BOTOX© was the only Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatment of its kind until recently when DYSPORT™ received approval in late 2009. Cosmetic BOTOX© injections have been approved by the FDA for use by people between 18 and 65 years of age.
Do Not Consider BOTOX © in These Situations
You should NOT receive BOTOX© injections if:
• You have a hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the drug formula
• You have neurological disorders, such as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease), myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome
Doctor Fedonenko will discuss these precautions and answer any specific questions you may have during your initial consultation.
