Laser Hair Removal FAQ

What can I expect during my laser skin treatment?
Treatment will take place in the comfort and privacy of your practitioner’s office. First the treatment area will be prepared for the laser; then the treatment follows.

During preparation, the area to be treated is cleaned and numbed by an anesthetic cream. You are given safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light.

During the actual treatment, the practitioner guides the laser light to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Each laser pulse is preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area being treated.

Does it hurt?
Many people are worried that there will be a lot of pain with laser skin treatment. However, with advances in technology, this has been taken into consideration. Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This mild discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by the high-tech laser’s DCD cooling. For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner.

I have been denied treatment by other laser treatment centers because of my skin type. Does your laser treatment work on dark skin?

The lasers at Your Laser Skin Care are the latest advancements in laser technology. Earlier in the history of laser treatment, lasers were only able to “see” hairs against a contrast of lighter skin. However, the high-tech Yag laser at Your Laser Skin Care is fully equipped to handle laser hair removal in all skin types including Middle Eastern and African ethnicities.

I have problems continually with ingrown hairs. Will Laser Hair Removal work for me?

Yes. At Your Laser Skin Care, we have many patients that suffered from this condition. Ingrown hairs can occur in several locations of the body. When the area is treated, the laser “sees” the hair and removes it, thus removing the source of the problem. Laser Hair Removal has been extremely helpful for patients that suffer from ingrown hairs. Without the hair, infections cannot occur in the hair follicle and antibiotic treatment is not necessary.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. In the life cycle of a hair follicle, there are two phases: active and dormant. The hair can be treated with laser only if the hair is actively growing in the active cycle. Multiple treatments are necessary to catch the hair follicles in the active cycle. Many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.

What can I expect after treatment?
Our high-tech Yag laser’s DCD cooling treatment that follows the heat of the laser prevents a lot of side effects. After your treatment, you may use a cool compress or gel pack if the treated area has any redness or swelling. This should resolve within a few hours.
