BOTOX© in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles corridor, from Beverly Hills to West Hollywood, is recognized as the beauty capital of the world. BOTOX©, the most popular anti-aging treatment of our time, is the main attraction. In a very short time, BOTOX© therapy can fade away frown lines and crow’s feet that have been present for years. This cosmetic treatment can change your life in many ways.
As we age, the movements that are repeated in the face create lines or wrinkles. Over a period of years, these wrinkles become deeper and deeper. The beauty of BOTOX© is that within a short period of time the wrinkles disappear and we can appear 10 or more years younger.
In 2002, the FDA approved BOTOX© for the temporary elimination of “moderate to severe” facial lines and wrinkles, changing the world of cosmetic dermatology forever. In less than 10 years, BOTOX© became the #1 non-surgical beauty treatment in the world for both men and women.
BOTOX is more than a cosmetic or skin care product…BOTOX© is a beauty phenomenon. From it’s public introduction, in 2002, the cosmetic dermatology quest for anti-aging “miracle drugs” became a revolution. Nearly 3,000,000 people, in the U.S. alone (over 11,000,000 world-wide), have had BOTOX treatments with a reported 82% seeing an improvement within only 7 days.
With nearly 6.6 million procedures in 2014, today, BOTOX© continues to be the #1 non-surgical cosmetic procedure, in the world. And the bottom line? BOTOX© generates an annual revenue of $2.5 billion.
So who are these 3,000,000 people enjoying the refreshing “spray” from the edge of the Fountain of Youth? Surprisingly, they’re not glamorous superstars but rather your average middle-aged (40’s and 50’s) working moms who simply want to “look more relaxed and less stressed.” Just like you. And while men only comprise about 7% of the current BOTOX© clientele, it’s becoming more and more acceptable for them to join the anti-aging population.
Does BOTOX© live up to the hype of its reputation? Nearly 80% of patients say they were definitely satisfied with their results and a full 75% reported no side effects or complications!
Q: What is Cosmetic BOTOX & How Does it Work?
A: BOTOX© is the brand name for a natural, purified protein neurotoxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Tiny injections of the purified protein into the wrinkle paralyze the muscle so that it cannot contract. This automatically results in the relaxation of the muscles and a reduction in the wrinkles.
Q: What is the Procedure for BOTOX© Injections?
A: The treatment consists of a few tiny injections, placed directly into the muscles surrounding the wrinkles being targeted. By relaxing the muscle contractions that, over time, created the wrinkles, the lines are dissolved and your smooth and supple skin is restored.
For many people, there is an interesting side benefit to the BOTOX© treatments. With continued use, the original frown that created the wrinkle, has been eliminated, lessening the depth and severity of the wrinkle itself.
Q: How Soon Does Cosmetic BOTOX Start Working & How Long Does it Last?
A: The treatment takes less than 30 minutes to perform and takes effect in 4-10 days. It can be done over your lunch break and you will be able to return to work afterwards. Gradually, over 3-5 months the BOTOX© effect will fade and the muscle action will return. When the frown line starts to reappear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired results. Subsequent treatments enhance the desired effects of the previous treatments.
Q: How Much Does BOTOX© Cost?
A: BOTOX© is one of the most affordable of the cosmetic dermatology products. BOTOX©, is usually priced by the unit. In Los Angeles, one unit averages from $9 to $14, while in Fort Meyers, FL, it’s between $15-$20 per unit. A typical “frown between the eyes” will take 20 units. Remember, while price matters, when it comes to your face, top quality is priceless.
Dysport vs. BOTOX
Since BOTOX© was FDA-approved, it had remained unchallenged in the world of wrinkle-free beauty care; until 2009, and the arrival of rival product, Dysport. Since then, the debate has been spirited: which product is best? And the answer, to date, is a tie.
Some say that Dysport works faster, covers a wider area and costs less. Others maintain that BOTOX© is stronger and lasts longer. So, as always, individual patients, with individual needs, in consultation with the practitioner who knows the product and the patient, will ultimately decide.
Your Laser Skin Care provides both and will be happy to discuss all the possibilities.
BOTOX© for Cluster Headaches/Migraines
In the U.S., approximately 3.2 million people suffer from chronic migraine headaches. In 2010, BOTOX© was approved by the FDA, for people that suffer 15 or more migraines per month. While not successful with all patients, those that do find relief, may receive BOTOX© injections every 2 – 4 months. Cluster headaches, which may occur one to fifteen times in a period of 48 hours and are even more painful than the migraine, has not yet received FDA approval. However, many doctors report some success with the BOTOX© treatment and it is receiving continued study.
Q: How Safe Are BOTOX Injections?
A: While there are some possible side effects, BOTOX© medical research shows that BOTOX© injections are safe for most people. At Your Laser Skin Care, we believe in full disclosure of side effects, although we know that it may be very rare for you to experience them.

What to Do Before BOTOX© Treatment
There are a few precautions you should take prior to your BOTOX© treatment.
Avoid Certain Medications and Supplements.
Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to your treatment. These substances may increase bruising or bleeding at the site of your injections.
Save the Wine, Beer and Alcohol for later.
Do not consume alcohol one week before and after your BOTOX© treatment. Alcohol can decrease circulation and blood flow in your body, which could interfere with maximum results.
Reschedule the Treatment if You Have an Infection.
If you have an infection at the site where injections will be placed, simply reschedule the BOTOX© injections to another day allowing the infection to heal.
The safety of BOTOX© for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding has not been established.
