With the FDA-approval of the revolutionary drug, BOTOX, in 2002, the cosmetic dermatology industry changed forever. BOTOX softens or eliminates the most common signs of premature aging: wrinkles, lines, furrows between the eyebrows and crow’s feet crinkles, at the corner of your eyes.
From 2012, the stats are in. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 14.6 million procedures were performed in 2012; an increase of 5%. But 6.1 million of those procedures were from BOTOX; an increase of 8%. With an increase of 5% for the derma fillers, 4% for laser hair removal and 2% for chemical peels, a full 13 million of the total 14.6 million were for the minimally invasive treatments.
Breast enlargement (still the most popular of all surgeries, although declining in numbers), facelifts, tummy tucks, nose jobs and other surgical procedures comprised the remaining numbers.
In addition to erasing some of the most prevalent lines and wrinkles, BOTOX is still one of the most affordable, pain-free and with the fewest side effects of all the latest and greatest beauty treatments. And, depending upon the individual, the results may last up to four or five months.
If you live near or are visiting the area, BOTOX in Los Angeles and BOTOX in Beverly Hills remain among the most conveniently located and most customer-oriented BOTOX capitals in the country.
BOTOX Cosmetic is best known for its major contribution to the beauty industry. But, according to its manufacturer, Allergan, the medical uses of the drug, may, eventually, outweigh the cosmetic.
Today, medical BOTOX is used in the treatment of migraine headaches, excessive sweating, incontinence, chewing and swallowing problems, “gummy” smile, some muscle spasms and, most recently, is being studied for relief in teeth-clenching. Allergan currently has over 90 patents either owned or pending.

If you ask any woman what they would most like out of their skin, smoothness is likely one of the most common answers they will provide. Skin smoothing treatments help a lot with the look and texture of the skin – and they minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, fillers and various other methods are used to smooth out the skin, but keeping the facial tissue healthy first starts at home.
Exfoliating twice weekly keeps dead and dry skin cells from dulling the complexion. Gentle facial scrubs slough away dry skin and hydrate the newly exposed cells for a renewed, brightened appearance. After showering, apply a nightly moisturizer to the skin to keep cells rejuvenated. Exfoliating is important for two reasons:
- It removes the dry skin cells from the surface of the face, which causes the skin to look dull and aged.
- Exfoliating boosts circulation and promotes cell renewal, leading to healthier skin
Keep skin looking smooth and youthful by applying an ample amount of sunscreen to exposed areas of the skin before going outside. Ongoing sun exposure leads to a breakdown of the collagen and elastin in the skin, leaving behind thinning, drooping skin around the eyes and mouth. Don’t forget – skin will develop sagging, fine lines and wrinkles naturally because of the aging process. If you find that you still would like to improve the look and texture of the skin even after implementing these suggestions, many skin care centers provide innovative treatments to improve the appearance and feeling of the skin.
Fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, plump up areas of the face that are losing volume because of the aging process. Thinning lips, sagging skin and fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and mouth, commonly referred to as ‘expression lines’, are all minimized with the help of fillers. An advantage of using fillers is that each patient has different needs – so you can subtly improve the trouble areas of the skin without a drastic treatment. Results are long lasting, but not permanent – so if you don’t prefer the look of fillers in certain areas of the face they do begin to fade within a year.
Finding a skin care specialist who provides filler treatments should be done with care to ensure you find quality products and an experience physician. Never look for the most convenient or cheapest options, as you never know if the quality or expertise is compromised.

In and around Los Angeles, fillers are provided through skin care spas or centers to improve the look of the face and restore confidence and beauty back to the patient. The aging process is responsible for many of the fine lines and wrinkles that appear on the face, but they are not the result of just one cause. In fact, wrinkles and developing fine lines occur for some of these reasons:
• Collagen levels in the skin begin to decrease, making it harder for skin to “bounce back”
• Repeated muscle movement essentially etches wrinkles into the skin – such as expression lines. Common expression lines include the crinkles lines around the outside of the eyes, worry lines in the forehead or folds that run from the nose to the mouth
• Due to the reduction of elastin and collagen in the skin, facial tissue begins to sag – leading to increase wrinkles on the face and neck
Fillers, the most common options being Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm, are all gel products gently injected into areas of fine lines or wrinkles to add volume back into the area and effectively reduce the appearance of folds. This outpatient procedure is quick and efficient – just 30 minutes in the doctor’s office a few times a year can potentially turn back the clock on your appearance by years.
During a consultation, your skin care doctor will go over the areas she best feels will benefit from injectable fillers. Fillers minimize fine lines and wrinkles in areas with prominent folding – such as those around the forehead, nose and mouth, and even with minor wrinkles fillers are beneficial to help ward off the aging process for a few more years. The face isn’t the only place injectable fillers help with the appearance, either. Collagen loss, thinning skin and wrinkling affect the back of the hands, and fillers restore volume back into the skin to create a more youthful look.
The use of filler is a convenient and safe alternative to more invasive procedures, such as a face lift. Patients are provided the utmost comfort – numbing creams are used for sensitive locations on the face, like the lips, to make the process even more comfortable. In Los Angeles, you will find many options as “deals” for injectable fillers, but you must always have the treatment done by a professional in a medical setting to ensure the quality of the product and that it’s administered in the safest way possible.
