How Long Does Botox Take to Work?

Posted on April 21, 2016 by admin

You’ve just had your first Botox injections, but your frown lines, and crow’s feet are still there. Don’t despair – Botox takes some time to work, and it varies by an individual. Most people see results within a week of Botox treatment.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox consists of purified botulinum toxin, which is safe in the minute doses it’s used for Botox injections. When injected into the facial tissue,  Botox blocks signals from nerves to muscles. It causes temporary paralysis of these muscles. Since the muscles are relaxed, wrinkles disappear.

Patience is a Virtue

Avoid constantly checking the mirror for the first few days after the treatment. You want to see those lines disappear, and they will. By day five post-treatment, you should notice a difference. You might not see the full effect for up to two weeks.

Your age, the depth of the lines and wrinkles and your facial muscles strength all affect how long it takes to see the changes.

Facial Feeling

Even if you don’t see immediate results, you may notice that your facial muscles feel different. You might feel a tightness, tingling or heaviness in your skin, but that normally goes away within a few days.

How Long Does It Last?

Botox effects last between three and four months. When your wrinkles return, it’s time for another visit to a doctor. As your body adjusts to treatments, the effects last longer, as muscles become more relaxed over time.
