The Best Ways to Use and Apply Latisse

Posted on February 11, 2022 by Dr Elenora Fedoneko

This blog is a continuation of our last topic “The Best Reasons to use Latisse to Improve Your Eyelashes“, focusing this time on some of the practical considerations of using Latisse.

At least initially Latisse should be applied every day – once you have achieved the growth you desire and want simply to maintain these results it may be possible to move to applying the product every other day.

What’s the Best Way to Apply Latisse?

Latisse is not cheap, so it’s important not to waste the product by applying too much. A single drop of the product is typically enough for both eyes. The product should be placed on the applicator, and then lightly applied to the skin adjacent to your upper eyelashes, very similarly to how you would apply eyeliner. Apply just enough to wet the skin, and ensure that nothing drips – if it does you’re using too much.

How to Apply Latisse to the Eyebrows

Latisse has also been found effective at stimulating eyebrow growth. As with eyelashes, apply the product very sparingly. You may find that the applicator holds enough product after being used on your eyelashes to also allow you to lightly brush over your eyebrows too.

Safety Considerations

Latisse should not be used if your eyes become infected, or if you have been diagnosed with glaucoma. Your doctor should ensure that you’re a good candidate before prescribing Latisse.

There are reports that Latisse can rarely result in darkening of the iris, especially for patients with very light colored eyes. These reports actually originate in cases when a similar product to Latisse is used to control glaucoma. This use of the product involves applying the drops directly into the eye. As Latisse is applied to the skin, and not directly into the eye, we think this risk can be safely discounted.
